Synopsis of the Commedia

In Arabia, the Emperor has a son but decides to abandon him due to a witch‟s curse on the day of

his birth. In Venice, Flavio and Isabella want to marry but the global economic crisis “typical of

those years”, makes their will impossible: the cost of buying a palace is increasingly crazy; the merchants do not give credit easily; they do not have access to financial aid; and above all, Isabella‟s father, the famous Dr. Graziano, does not want to give the dowry to his daughter because he intends to keep her at his side for the rest of her life. The opposite is happening in Mrs. Bisognosi´s house, who wants to get rid of her useless son that still lives with her.Meanwhile, a certain Captain arrives from abroad, pretending to be the Emperor‟s son and heir, in order to win Isabella‟s love, promising a very attractive financial reward. He takes Harlequín as his servant, who is in love with Colombina, the maid in Dr. Graziano‟s house, and they fool around together. From misunderstandings, jokes and tricks, there will be duels, surprises and discoveries which will resolve the situation in the end and will guide all the characters involved back to serenity.
